Privacy policy
Last updated: July 6, 2026.
Summary
LucidLeap is local-first. Your dream journal, questionnaires, settings and alarms are stored only on your device. There are no accounts, no sign-up, and no server of ours where your dreams are stored.
Data that stays on your device
- Journal entries: text, lucidity level, mood, tags and any images you add.
- Profile questionnaire results and your Lucid Dreaming Score.
- Alarm and reminder configuration.
- App preferences (language, privacy settings).
You can export this data (JSON) or delete it at any time from within the app. Uninstalling the app removes the data from the device.
Android backup
The app participates in Android Auto Backup: your journal and preferences are included in the encrypted backup Android keeps in the phone's own Google account, so you don't lose your dreams when switching phones. It is managed by the system (not by us) and you can turn it off in Android settings. Images are only carried over in direct device-to-device transfers, not to the cloud.
Approximate location (optional, off by default)
If you enable the corresponding privacy setting, the app notes an approximate location (rounded to ~100 m) when you save a dream. It is stored only on your device, included in your export, and never sent to any server.
AI features (optional, on demand)
AI features only run when you invoke them, and they are the only part of the app that uses the network:
- Tag / concept suggestions: the dream text you choose is sent encrypted (HTTPS) to our intermediary service (a Cloudflare Worker), which forwards it to the Google Gemini API and returns the concepts. We do not store your text.
- Trends (premium): only aggregated, anonymous counts are sent (e.g. "train: 7 times"), never the text of your dreams.
- Visualize dream (premium): the dream text is sent the same way to generate an image, which is saved on your device.
To enforce usage limits we use an anonymous random identifier generated on your device; it cannot identify you or be matched with other services. Google's processing is governed by the Google privacy policy.
Advertising
The free version may show ads via Google AdMob. AdMob may use device identifiers to serve ads. In the European Union we will ask for consent (UMP form) before showing personalized ads; you can decline and keep using the app.
Permissions the app may request
- Exact alarms and notifications: so WBTB alarms and reminders work with the app closed.
- Microphone (optional): only if you use voice dictation. Recognition is handled by your phone's system.
- Approximate location (optional): only if you enable location in the privacy settings.
- Photos/gallery (optional): only when you pick an image for a dream; it is copied into the app.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above. Substantial changes will be announced in the app itself.
