Privacy policy

Last updated: August 1, 2026.

Summary

LucidLeap is local-first. Your dream journal, questionnaires, settings and alarms are stored only on your device. There are no accounts, no sign-up, and no server of ours where your dreams are stored.

Data that stays on your device

You can export this data (JSON) or delete it at any time from within the app. Uninstalling the app removes the data from the device.

Android backup

The app participates in Android Auto Backup: your journal and preferences are included in the encrypted backup Android keeps in the phone's own Google account, so you don't lose your dreams when switching phones. It is managed by the system (not by us) and you can turn it off in Android settings. Images are only carried over in direct device-to-device transfers, not to the cloud.

Approximate location (optional, off by default)

If you enable the corresponding privacy setting, the app notes an approximate location (rounded to ~100 m) when you save a dream. It is stored only on your device, included in your export, and never sent to any server.

AI features (optional, on demand)

AI features only run when you invoke them, and they are the only part of the app that uses the network:

To enforce usage limits we use an anonymous random identifier generated on your device; it cannot identify you or be matched with other services. Google's processing is governed by the Google privacy policy.

Email news (optional)

If you voluntarily sign up from Settings, we store your email address only to send you LucidLeap news. It is kept in our intermediary service (Cloudflare), completely separate from your dreams and from any app identifier: the mailing list knows nothing about your journal. You can unsubscribe at any time by replying to any email or writing to the contact below, and we will delete your address.

Anonymous profile data (optional)

If you turn on "Help improve LucidLeap" in Settings, we anonymously send a few profile details: age range, gender, hours of sleep, schedule regularity, physical activity and body mass index band. They help us understand who uses the app and decide what to improve.

This never includes your email, your name, the text of your dreams or your questionnaire results, and it is stored separately from the mailing list: the two are never matched. Only values from a closed list of options are accepted, never free text. It is off by default, you can turn it off whenever you want and, if you write to us, we will delete the record linked to your device.

Advertising

The free version may show ads via Google AdMob. AdMob may use device identifiers to serve ads. In the European Union we will ask for consent (UMP form) before showing personalized ads; you can decline and keep using the app.

Permissions the app may request

Children

The app is not directed to children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date above. Substantial changes will be announced in the app itself.
